UK-FAPESP Workshop - Celebrating Scientific Collaboration

The objective of this workshop is not only to celebrate the successful scientific collaboration between the UK and the State of São Paulo, but also to disseminate existing funding opportunities and encourage more and stronger research proposals to a large audience of Sao Paulo researchers.

Since 2009, with the first joint peer review agreement with UK Research & Innovation, FAPESP has gradually increased and strengthened the partnerships with British institutions, including academies, companies and an expressive number of universities.

The collaboration with the Newton Fund established in 2014 was also significant to the increase of research partnerships. Researchers from the State of Sao Paulo and from the UK now have a broad range of funding schemes available to collaborate.Today, the UK figures as the second partner in international co-authorship for São Paulo researchers’ publications. There is a clear complementarity between Brazilian and British Science, with expertise in biodiversity, climate change, neglected diseases, and biofuels – to name a few.

In this workshop, key co-funding research partners from FAPESP, including UK Research and Innovation, UK Universities, British Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Newton Fund will share future opportunities for bilateral research collaboration. FAPESP and the UK partners continue to welcome joint proposals from researchers from São Paulo and the UK, and look forward to seeing this collaboration flourish even more in the coming years.
