• Resumo Summary

  Anunciamos a abertura de posição de Pós-Doutorado junto ao GHEMAT-SP – Grupo de Pesquisa de História da Educação Matemática, vinculado à Universidade Federal de São Paulo. A posição é ligada ao Projeto Temático FAPESP intitulado “A matemática na formação de professores e no ensino: processos e dinâmicas de produção de um saber profissional, 1890-1990”, coordenado por Wagner Rodrigues Valente. No âmbito desse projeto, estão abertas as inscrições para candidaturas ao desenvolvimento do subprojeto “Os arquivos de Edward L. Thorndike na Universidade de Colúmbia: a construção de uma nova aritmética a ensinar e para ensinar”.

  Até o presente, raros têm sido os estudos sobre Thorndike no Brasil no âmbito de suas contribuições ao ensino de matemática (aritmética). Pode-se, praticamente, citar dois trabalhos de maior fôlego: Santos (2006) e Rabelo (2016). De outra parte, a literatura relativa à história da educação mostra a efetiva circulação dos estudos desse autor estadunidense entre nós. Sabe-se de obras do autor que se transformaram em verdadeiros best-sellers, como “A nova metodologia da Aritmética”. Os trabalhos existentes sobre Thorndike mencionados anteriormente atém-se à discussão da trajetória do autor nos EUA, como é caso da tese de Ivanete Batista dos Santos; ou a ações comparativas de Thorndike relativamente a John Dewey, exercício realizado por Rafaela Rabelo. Cite-se que tais pesquisas são precedidas desde, pelo menos, o ano 2000, pelos estudos de base sobre a escola, e o “americanismo e educação”, da pesquisadora Mirian Jorge Warde. Assim, este projeto de pesquisa pós-doutoral volta sua atenção, especificamente, para os arquivos de Thorndike no intento de compreender a marcha realizada pelo autor para estabelecer padrões, formas estandardizadas do que poderíamos chamar no projeto temático citado de “aritmética a ensinar”, bem como o diálogo mantido pelo autor com a formação de professores, na evidência de uma “matemática para ensinar”.

  Os(as) candidatos(as) ao pós-doutoramento devem evidenciar em seu currículo acadêmico produções no âmbito da história da educação matemática. No período de 18 meses, a pesquisa exigirá do(a) selecionado(a) estágios no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos da América (EUA) distribuídos da seguinte forma: nos 6 primeiros meses, participação em reuniões no GHEMAT-SP, Brasil, com os demais pesquisadores do Projeto Temático; estágio de 8 meses nos EUA para o trabalho com os arquivos de Thorndike na Universidade de Colúmbia; e 4 meses finais em São Paulo em atendimento ao Regimento FAPESP (http://www.fapesp.br/270#indice).

  e) Plano inicial de atividades a serem desenvolvidas para a realização do projeto. 

  Critérios de seleção:

  a) Análise do currículo, quanto à formação acadêmica direcionada para execução do projeto de pesquisa e da Súmula Curricular, relativamente à produção intelectual na área do presente edital;
  b) Análise da carta de apresentação;
  c) Entrevista e arguição do plano inicial de trabalho (de 25 a 28 de fevereiro);
  d) Prova escrita de proficiência na língua inglesa com tema relativo ao projeto de pós-doutorado. 

  Valor e duração da bolsa:

  A candidatura selecionada receberá bolsa pós-doutorado FAPESP (PD-BR), conforme tabela de valores (www.fapesp.br/3162) mais auxílio de reserva técnica. O desenvolvimento do projeto terá duração de 18 meses.

  We announce the opening of a postdoctoral position at the GHEMAT-SP -- Mathematics Education History Research Group linked to the Federal University of São Paulo. The position is linked to the Thematic Project entitled "Mathematics in teacher training and teaching: processes and dynamics in the production of professional knowledge, 1890-1990," funded by the Sao Paulo Research Foundation -- FAPESP and coordinated by professor Wagner Rodrigues Valente. As part of this project, applications for the development of the sub-project "The archives of Edward L. Thorndike at Columbia University: the construction of a new arithmetic to teach and for teaching" are open.

  To the present, studies on Thorndike in Brazil have been rare in the context of his contributions to teaching mathematics (arithmetic). We can barely mention two works of greater breadth: Santos (2006) and Rabelo (2016). On the other hand, the literature on the history of education shows the effective circulation of the studies of this American author among us. One knows of works by the author that have turned into true bestsellers, like "The new methodology of Arithmetic". The works on Thorndike mentioned above are devoted to the discussion of the trajectory of the author in the USA, as is the case of the doctorate thesis by Ivanete Batista dos Santos; or Thorndike's comparative actions against John Dewey, an exercise by Rafaela Rabelo. It should be noted that such research has been preceded since at least the year 2000 by the basic studies on the school, and on "Americanism and education" by the researcher Mirian Jorge Warde. Thus, this postdoctoral research project turns its attention specifically to Thorndike's archives in an attempt to understand the author's progress to establish patterns, standardized forms of what we might call "arithmetic to teach" (as quoted from the thematic project), as well as the dialogue maintained by the author with the formation of teachers, on the evidence of a "mathematics for teaching".

  Postdoctoral candidates should highlight in their academic curriculum productions within the history of mathematics education. In an 18-month period, the research will require from the selected parties, internships in Brazil and the United States of America (USA) distributed as follows: the first 6 months, participation in meetings at GHEMAT-SP, Brazil, with the other researchers of the Thematic Project; an 8-month internship in the USA to work with Thorndike's archives at Columbia University; and a final 4 months in GHEMAT-SP in compliance with the FAPESP Regiment (http://www.fapesp.br/en/postdoc).

  Selection Criteria:

  a) Analysis of the curriculum, regarding the academic formation directed to the execution of the research project and the Curricular Summaries, regarding the intellectual production in the area of this call;
  b) Analysis of the covering letter;
  c) Interview and discussion of the initial work plan (from February 25th to February 28th);
  d) Written test of proficiency in the English language with a theme related to the post doctoral degree. 

  Value and duration of the scholarship: The selected application will receive a FAPESP post-doctorate scholarship (PD-BR), according to the chart of values (www.fapesp.br/3162) plus a technical reservation assistance. The development of the project will last 18 months. 

  Note: The proof for the doctor's degree must be obtained on the date of the interview, if the candidate is selected for this stage.
