Dr. Joao Santana Silva (PI, Laboratory of Immunoparasitology) is seeking for a highly motivated Post-doctoral individual. The Laboratory is funded by the Center for Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CRID/FAPESP) and is located in the Biochemistry and Immunology Department (Joao Santana Silva), Ribeirao Preto Medical School from the University of Sao Paulo (FMRP-USP), Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) funds the fellowship. Successful applicants can be funded for up to 3 years.

Applicants must be exceptionally motivated, innovative, and able to work independently and with a collaborative team setting. The ideal candidate must have a PhD degree and background in the fields of Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Infectious Diseases. Prior experience in techniques such as Immunology / Molecular Biology / Biochemistry and/or Imaging is highly recommended.

Applicants should submit the application by August 1st, 2017 (including a cover letter, CV and 2 recommendation letters) to Joao S. Silva: jsdsilva@fmrp.usp.br.

    Abstract
Inflammatory and infectious diseases are a complex and heterogeneous group of diseases that affect more than 10% of the world population. The current options for treating inflammatory diseases are still limited and in some cases ineffective due to limited understanding of their underlying mechanisms. The Center for Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CRID) performs integrative and translational research to generate scientific knowledge and to identify new therapeutic targets for inflammatory diseases. The overall objective of the CRID is to identify, validate and target novel biological pathways involved in inflammatory processes. The specific goal of the Center will be to advance the pathophysiological understanding of inflammatory diseases including infectious diseases. The general goal of the CRID is to identify, validate and target specific processes related to inflammatory diseases. The post-doctoral fellow may be familiar with techniques including Cellular and Molecular Biology and/or Biochemistry and/or Imaging and may dedicate his/her efforts to identify novel genes and signaling pathways involved in host cell signaling in response to host cell infection with intracellular pathogens.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP's Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 6.819,30 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.

More information about the fellowship is at: www.fapesp.br/en/5427.
