  • Resumo Summary

    O principal objetivo deste projeto é introduzir o bolsista às técnicas de simulação molecular através do estudo do transporte de fluidos confinados em nanoestruturas. O bolsista realizará cálculos de dinâmica molecular clássica para descrever nanotubos de carbono e diferentes solventes neles confinados. A partir das dinâmicas das simulações atomísticas, podemos determinar os dados físicos relevantes para caracterizar o transporte no fenômeno de confinamento do fluido. Exploraremos diferentes fluídos (água, CO2 e metano), sob condições termodinâmicas típicas na operação de dispositivos de nanofluídica e meios porosos.

    Os objetivos e atividades a serem desenvolvidas neste projeto vinculado aos projetos 8 e 41 do RCGI (www.usp.br/rcgi) são:

    1. Introdução a Dinâmica Molecular;
    2. Descrição atomística de fluidos (H2O, CO2 e CH4) e cálculos das propriedades estruturais e de transporte;
    3. Construção das diferentes nanoestruturas à base de carbono;
    4. Descrição das propriedades dos fluidos nas nanoestruturas e cálculos das propriedades termodinâmicas e estruturais.

    O(a) candidato(a) em potencial deve estar regularmente matriculado(a) na graduação em Física, Ciência dos Materiais, Química, Engenharias ou campos relacionados, e deve ter um histórico escolar compatível com os requerimentos exigidos pela FAPESP.

    INFORMAÇÕES SOBRE A BOLSA:

    O candidato selecionado receberá uma bolsa de Iniciação científica da FAPESP no valor de R$ 676,80 mensalmente pagos em Reais.

    Existe a possibilidade de oferecimento de Bolsa de Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE) por um período da iniciação científica, caso seja de interesse do projeto. Nesta situação, a seleção da instituição e o período será definido pelo coordenador do projeto, em função do propósito do estágio e das necessidades do projeto.

    The main objective of this project is to introduce molecular simulation techniques. This will be motivated through the study of the transport of confined fluids in nanostructures. The fellow student will perform calculations of classical molecular dynamics to describe the confinement of solvents within carbon nanotubes. From the information obtained within the atomistic simulations, we can determine the relevant physical data to characterize the transport in the phenomenon of fluid confinement. We will explore different fluids (water, CO2 and methane) under typical thermodynamic conditions in nanofluidic devices and porous media.

    The objectives and activities to be developed in this project linked to projects 8 and 41 of the RCGI (www.usp.br/rcgi) are:

    1. Introduction to Molecular Dynamics;
    2. Molecular simulations of fluids (H2O, CO2 and CH4) and determination of structural and transport properties;
    3. Atomistic construction of carbon-based nanostructures;
    4. Simulation of fluids confined in nanostructures and determination of their thermodynamic and structural properties.

    The prospective candidate must be regularly enrolled in an Undergraduate course in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related fields, and must have a school record consistent with required by FAPESP.

    INFORMATION ABOUT FELLOWSHIP

    The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Scientific Initiation scholarship in the amount of R$ 676,80 monthly payed in Reais. There is the possibility of offering a Research Internship abroad (BEPE) during part of the Scientific Initiation assignment, if it is of interest to the project. In this situation, the selection of the institution and the period will be defined by the project coordinator, depending on the purpose of the internship and the needs of the project.
