Alicia Kowaltowski is a Full Professor at the Biochemistry Department of the Chemistry Institute, University of São Paulo (USP). Her work focusses on Energy Metabolism.
Prof. Kowaltowski graduated in Medicine at the State University of Campinas (1997), and holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the same university in collaboration with the University of Maryland (1999). She trained as a post-doc at the Oregon Graduate Institute (2000).
She is a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (2006), recipient of the Young Talent in Sciences Award (1999), Federation of European Biochemical Societies Anniversary Prize (2012) and CAPES-Elsevier Award (2014). She is an editorial board member for the Biochemical Journal and Free Radical Biology & Medicine, associate editor for Redox Biology, and a member of the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (2016) and Brazilian Academy for Sciences (2018).
