Liedi Legi Bariani Bernucci

Received her BSc in civil engineering in 1981, her Master in Geotechnics (1987) and her Doctor Degree in Transportation Engineering (1995) from the Escola Politécnica (Polytechnic School) of the University of Sao Paulo. Part of her master research (1984-1986) and her doctor research (1987-1988) was conducted at the ETHZ – Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Her thesis adviser was Prof Dr. Balducci from the ETHZ.

Prof. Dr. Liedi Bernucci is Full Professor for Infrastructure and Transportation Engineering at the University of São Paulo since 2006 and occupies the position of Head of the Laboratory of Pavement Technology since 1995. She has been the head of the Transportation Engineering Department for 7 years. In 2014 Prof. Bernucci was elected Vice-Dean and in 2018 the first woman elected Dean of Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo. She is member of Budget and Assets Committee of USP and member of Superior Council of FAPESP. Author of more than 200 publications, 2 books and 5 book chapters. She was advisor of 15 PhD theses, and 25 master’s theses. Research impact metrics in Scholar Google 2019: h=12, citations=1022.

She is coordinator of several Research Projects in Brazil in the area of highway pavements, railways and airport runways. Her research areas are: pavement materials, recycling, pavement structural design, pavement evaluation, skid resistance, road network management. She receives research funding from Brazilians research agencies, road concessionaries, petroleum enterprises, mining company, etc. She was the coordinator of the Brazilian Asphalt Committee of the Brazilian Petroleum Institute in 2007. She is member of the Brazilian Standard Materials committee, and of several Brazilian and international scientific committees.
