Dr. Calado is a hematologista and Associate Professor at the Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine, University of São Paulo, from which he received his M.D. (1997), Ph.D. (2003), and free-lecturer (2012). He was trained by internal medicine and hematology (1998-2001) at the University Hospital, Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine, University of São Paulo and did his postdoctoral fellowship (2003-2007) at the Hematology Branch, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, under Dr. Neal Young’s supervision, and where he also worked as staff scientist until 2011.
His research interest is focused on hematopoietic stem cell disoders, aplastic anemia, telomere biology, and telomeropathies.
Dr. Calado was an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2013-2017) and member of the Committee for Educational Affairs, American Society of Hematology (2013-2017). He is a level 1D researcher at CNPq, coordinator of the Medicine II area at CAPES, and scientific director of the Ribeirão Preto Blood Bank Foundation.
