SPRINT 1st Edition 2022 – Guidelines Technical University of Munich (TUM)

Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers at Technical University of Munich

FAPESP and Technical University of Munich signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on March 19, 2018, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from Germany, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and TUM make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2022 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12022) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from TUM side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

All TUM professors and all TUM Junior Fellow s are eligible to apply.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

Principal Investigators as well associated researchers, PhD-candidates and students from Technical University of Munich directly involved in the proposed research project.

Note:

  • Proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

  • · Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12022)

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 12 months.

5. Funding principles

5.1. FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of 10,000.00 EUR (ten thousand euros) per proposal and TUM will provide funding of up to 10,000.00 EUR (ten thousand euros) per proposal, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (website of the call)

5.2. FAPESP and TUM will fund a maximum of five (05) approved proposals.

6. Proposal characteristics for TUM researchers:

Applicants must submit the following:

6.1. A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at TUM. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to TUM.

As described at website of the call” the Research Project must include the following items:

a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher at TUM;

b. Detailed schedule of the exchange missions to be carried out by the TUM team at the São Paulo institution and the São Paulo team at TUM, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call;

c. Performance indicators for the planned activities, indicating the expected results;

d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;

e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the TUM and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses or visits, etc.;

f. Description of how the Principal Investigators in São Paulo and in the TUM intend to prepare a joint research project, resulting from the exchange activities developed from the proposal submitted in this Call, to be submitted to research funding agencies accessible in their regions in order to create a medium-long-term collaboration (up to one page).

g. Detailed project budget including contribution/co-financing of the cooperation partner.

h. Written statement of support for the project of the cooperation partner.

7. Submission of proposals to TUM

8. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on the FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and the TUM São Paulo (https://www.international.tum.de/en/global/sao-paulo/) webportals and by means of a communication to the applicants.

9. Contract for selected projects TUM

Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in the Letter of Award and Funding Agreement.

10. Grant cancellation

TUM may cancel funding of a TUM researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a significant event justifies its cancellation, at the discretion of the Senior Vice President for International Alliances and Alumni, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
