SPRINT 2nd Edition 2022: Guidelines University of Münster (WWU)

Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of the University of Münster

FAPESP and University of Münster (WWU), signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on October 15th 2014, which was renewed on May 14th 2020, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Münster and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a sixth action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and WWU make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2022 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22022) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from WWU side

1.1. Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

PIs must be permanent or contracted University of Münster employees at an Academic Level at time of application and must maintain this status for the duration of the proposed activities.

1.2. Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:

Principal Investigators as well Associated Researchers from University of Münster directly involved in the proposed research project. Participating University of Münster post-doctoral fellows must hold a fellowship/scholarship during the planned exchange mission.

Note:

a. Proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

b. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22022).

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 12 months.

5. Funding principles

5.1. FAPESP will provide funding of up to 10,000.00 EUR (ten thousand euros) per proposal and from side of WWU the contribution will equally be up to 10,000.00 EUR (ten thousand euros) per proposal, for supporting up to three (3) approved proposals, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8944).

6. Proposal characteristics for WWU researchers

The proposal shall be composed of:

6.1. A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written in English jointly by the Principal Investigator at the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at WWU, using the appropriate form (download at item 6.2 below). One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to WWU.

The Research Project must include the following:

a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out by each team will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher at WWU;

b. Detailed schedule of the exchange missions to be carried out by the partner team at the São Paulo institution and the São Paulo team at WWU, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call;

c. Performance indicators for the planned activities, indicating the expected results;

d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;

e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for WWU and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses etc.;

f. Description of how the Principal Investigators in São Paulo and in WWU intend to prepare a joint research project, resulting from the exchange activities developed from the proposal submitted in this Call, to be submitted to research funding agencies accessible in their regions in order to create a medium-long-term collaboration (up to one page).

6.2. In addition to the above referred Research Project, the proposal for WWU must include the following items:

a. Budget sheet

b. Letter of Support from the Head of Department

c. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 11.2 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22022.

7. Submission of proposals to WWU

Submissions to University of Münster requires a completed application saved as a single PDF file and submitted electronically to bz.fapesp@uni-muenster.de within the deadline of this call.

8. Result of the analysis

The results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and Brazil Centre of the University of Münster (www.uni-muenster.de/Brasilienzentrum) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

9. Grant cancellation

FAPESP or WWU may cancel funding if, during the grant timeframe, a significant event justifies its cancellation in the assessment of the Joint Steering Committee, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
