Was born in Campinas, SP, Brazil. He received the BS, MS and doctorate degrees in Electrical Engineering from State University of Campinas, UNICAMP, in 1974, 1976 and 1981, respectively. From 1991 to 2014, he was a Full Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering and Industrial Automation at UNICAMP.
He has retired in 2016. He is currently special advisor for Physical Sciences and Engineering at FAPESP. His research interests are in the areas of modeling, identification and predictive control.
