Helena Lage Ferreira

Scientific Manager – Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences

President of the Brazilian Society for Virology (2023-2024), School Director of the Latin American Biotechnology Center (Cabbio), and Member of the Virus-MCTI Network. In 2023, she was named one of 100 PhD women of Agriculture by Forbes.

She has a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Unesp), Araçatuba (2003), and a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) (2007). She was an assistant researcher at Sciensano, Belgium, from 2008 to 2011, and a visiting researcher at the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL-ARS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for two years (2017-2019).

Since 2011, she has been a professor at the School of Animal Science and Food Engineering at the University of São Paulo (FZEA-USP). She coordinates the Previr-MCTI Project and is a member of the INCT-One Steering Committee, which aims to discover, monitor, and study emerging viruses to develop diagnostic and control tools for emergencies in One Health.
