Luiz Eduardo Oliveira e Cruz de Aragão

He holds a Bachelor's degree (1997) and a Master's degree (2000) in Biosciences and Biotechnology from the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF) and a PhD in Remote Sensing (2004) from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). He completed a Sandwich PhD at the University of Edinburgh (2003) and a post-doctorate at the University of Oxford (2004-2008), both in the United Kingdom.

He has worked as a Scientist at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) since 2013. He is the Deputy General Coordinator of Earth Sciences at INPE and a permanent member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (ACIESP).

He is currently the President of the Scientific Committee of the Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Program in the Amazon (LBA) and Coordinator of the Brazilian Symposium on Remote Sensing.

He received the Merit Award (2006) from the University of Oxford, and the Fellowship awarded by the Natural Environment Research Council of the United Kingdom in 2008.

He has published scientific articles as first author in the journals Science and Nature and has experience in the area of tropical ecosystems and environmental sciences, with an emphasis on Remote Sensing.
