FAPESP launches new call with China’s NSFC Versão em português

Research proposals will be selected in the areas of "Precision Medicine and Public Health" and "Low-Carbon Agriculture"

FAPESP announces the launch of a new call for proposals with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), in the areas of Precision Medicine and Public Health and Low-Carbon Agriculture.

The initiative consolidates the partnership between the two institutions, initiated in 2019 under the NSFC’s Sustainable Development International Cooperation (SDIC) Program, and strengthened during FAPESP Week China, held in June 2024 in the cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan.

The new call is structured around two major axes. The first, Precision Medicine and Public Health, encompasses multi-omics, antimicrobial resistance epidemiology, AI-assisted diagnostics, chronic diseases and healthy aging, and translational research on new drugs and diagnostic technologies.

The second, Smart and Low-Carbon Agriculture, covers genetic improvement of key crops (soybean, corn, sugarcane), tolerance to water and heat stress, precision agriculture using sensing and AI, soil health, bioinputs, bioenergy, and biorefineries.

Both axes are areas in which the state of São Paulo and China show strong co-publication and ongoing joint projects, which increases the likelihood of mature and competitive proposals.

The call is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and with FAPESP’s priority axes for the 2026–2028 period.

The budget requested from FAPESP must be prepared according to the rules of the chosen funding modality: Regular Research Grant (limit of R$ 600,000) or Thematic Project (limit of R$ 3 million). The maximum project duration is 36 months.

The deadline for proposal submission is May 15, 2026. Results are expected from September 2026 onward.

Questions may be sent to chamada-nsfc@fapesp.br.

The call is published at: fapesp.br/18122.
