GUIDELINE BANGOR UNIVERSITY

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from Bangor University

FAPESP and Bangor University signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on June, 19, 2012, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the Bangor University, UK and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as an action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and Bangor University make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2st Edition 2015 (www.fapesp.br/en/9365) and hereinafter set forth.

The grant can be used for activities such as exchange of researchers, research planning visits, attendance of international workshops and initial activities of data collection, always aiming to continue research collaboration and consolidation.

1. Eligibility from Bangor University side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

a. Researchers at Bangor University with a contract of employment for the full length of the proposed project.

b. Research projects must be collaborative with academic researchers based in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:

a. Researchers at Bangor University with a contract of employment for the full length of the proposed project.

b. Exchanges must involve collaboration with academic researchers based in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is up to 24 months. The award will be given for up to 12 months in the first instance.

4. Funding principles

FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £5000 per proposal per year and Bangor University will provide funding of up to £5000 per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses (including travel (air tickets), health insurance and living allowances for researchers), under the provisions of Clause 3 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/7048). A maximum of 3 projects will be funded under this call.

5. Proposal characteristics f or Bangor University researchers

Each proposal, submitted in English, shall contain:

5.1 Research Proposal form, including:

5.1.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator to FAPESP and his/her colleague, the Principal Investigator at the Partner Institution. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to the Partner Institution. The Research Project must include the following:

a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher abroad;

b. A timeline for each specific exchange mission, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call;

c. Performance indicators for the planned activities;

d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;

e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the Partner Institution and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses and visits to other institutions that carry out research activities in cognate areas;

5.1.2 Applicant details (Bangor and Sao Paulo Collaborator);

5.1.3 Budget outline (max 1 page).

5.2 Short CV (max 2 pages) of the Principal Investigators and collaborating researchers on both sides, FAPESP and the Bangor University.

6. Submission of proposals to Bangor University

6.1 The required documents must be submitted by email to the Bangor University Research and Enterprise Office, Cornelia Thomas (c.thomas@bangor.ac.uk). Hard copy applications or proposals submitted by any other means are not acceptable.

6.2 No proposal will be accepted after the closing date for submission, nor will any addendum or explanation be accepted, unless those explicitly and formally requested by FAPESP or Bangor University.

7. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and Bangor University web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

8. Contract for selected projects by Bangor University

Selected proposals will be required to provide a final report about the project activities and outcomes and planned future collaborative activities.
