GUIDELINE Heriot-Watt University 

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from Heriot-Watt University

FAPESP and Heriot-Watt University (HWU), signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on April 8, 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the HWU, The United Kingdom, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and HWU make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2014 (www.fapesp.br/en/8621) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from HWU side:

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

a. Members of academic staff within the following HWU Schools or Institute:

School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS)

School of Built Environment (SBE)

School of Life Sciences (SLS)

School of Mathematics and Computer Science (MACS)

Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE)

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

a. With endorsement of the appropriate Head of School / Institute

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in fields of science and technology as applied to:

- Energy;

- Public Health/Food;

- Environment.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.

4. Funding principles

4.1 FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Pounds Sterling) per proposal per year and HWU will provide funding of up to £10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Pounds Sterling) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties ( en/8540).

4.2 It is expected to fund up to five (5) proposals.

5. Proposal characteristics f or HWU researchers

a. A research project with a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content and following the items 6.1 and 6.2 of the SPRINT CALL FOR PROPOSALS – 1st Edition/2014 (www.fapesp.br/en/8621);

b. Written endorsement of Head of School / Institute.

6. Submission of proposals to HWU:

Submissions can only be accepted by email to a.miller@hw.ac.uk 

7. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and HWU (www.hw.ac.uk) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

8. Contract for selected projects by HWU

Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award. 

9. Grant cancellation

HWU may cancel funding of a HWU researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the program directors, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
