SPRINT – 2nd Edition 2014: Guideline STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from Stellenbosch University

FAPESP and Stellenbosch University signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on August, 26, 2013, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the Stellenbosch University, South Africa and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and Stellenbosch University make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2st Edition 2014 www.fapesp.br/en/8790 and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from Stellenbosch University side:

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

a. Only full-time Academic staff members (permanent or contract) and post-doctoral fellows may apply.

b. Post-doctoral fellows should have study permits, and be at Stellenbosch University for the duration of the project.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

a. Applications should be submitted by e-mail, PDF format.

b. No hard copies will be accepted and will automatically be disqualified.

c. Only applications endorsed by the departmental head or equivalent will be accepted.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.

4. Funding principles

FAPESP will provide funding up to the equivalent of US$5,000 USD per proposal/per year and Stellenbosch University will provide funding up to the equivalent of US$5,000USD (Five thousand US Dollars) per proposal/per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8258).

5. Proposal characteristics f or Stellenbosch University researchers

The proposal, in English, consists of an identical research project to be submitted to both Parties and the required documentation for each Party (FAPESP and Stellenbosch University), under the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth.

5.1 A research project with a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, with one copy sent to Stellenbosch University and another copy sent to FAPESP, including the items described on clause 6.1 of SPRINT Call for Proposals.

5.2 In addition to the above referred research project, the proposal must include the following items:

5.2.1 For Stellenbosch University:

a. Research Proposal Form;

b. CV Summaries of the Principal Investigators on both sides and of all candidates for the exchange activities;

c. Budget forms;

d. Worksheet with the candidates for the exchange missions;

6. Submission of proposals to Stellenbosch University

Submissions can only be accepted by email to izel@sun.ac.za with FAPESP in the subject line. 

7. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and Stellenbosch University (www.sun.ac.za) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

8. Contract for selected projects by Stellenbosch University

Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award. 

9. Grant cancellation

Stellenbosch University may cancel funding of a Stellenbosch University researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the program directors, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
