SPRINT – 2nd Edition 2014: Guideline University of Warwick

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from University of Warwick

FAPESP and University of Warwick, signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on June 19, 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Warwick, UK, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and University of Warwick make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2014 and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from Warwick side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

The Call is open to all academic Departments, Research Institutes, Centres and Groups, with particular encouragement given to inter- and multi-disciplinary proposals that foster collaboration between Departments and Faculties. Strong preference will be given to projects that will be likely to promote sustained collaborative activity beyond the end point of the award period.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:

The project lead must be a permanent or fixed-term member of academic staff (with at least 12 months left on employment contract as of 1st December 2014, ending no earlier than the end of the period for which funds are awarded). Participants may include Post-Doctoral Fellows and PhD students where appropriate.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.

4. Funding principles

FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £10,000.00 (ten thousand pounds) per proposal per year and the University of Warwick will provide funding of up to £ 10,000.00 (ten thousand pounds) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8748).

5. Proposal characteristics f or Warwick researchers

5.1 A research project with a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, with one copy sent to Warwick and another copy sent to FAPESP, including the following items:

5.1.1 Proposed exchange activities:

a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance;

b. A timeline for each specific exchange mission, considering the limit of missions and resources established in this Call;

c. Performance indicators for the planned activities;

d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;

e. Foreseen actions adding to the impact of the exchange for Partner Institution and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo (e.g. by means of seminars).

5.1.2 In addition to the above referred research project, the proposal for Warwick must include the following items:

a. Warwick Budget Form

b. Letter of Support from Head of Department

6. Submission of proposals to Warwick

Submissions can only be accepted by email to the following address: fapesp@warwick.ac.uk  

7. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and Warwick (www.warwick.ac.uk) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

8. Contract for selected projects by Warwick

Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award. 

9. Grant cancellation

Warwick may cancel funding of a Warwick researcher, if, during the grant timeframe a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the Chair’s discretion, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.

10. Financial and Reporting Obligations

Awards made from the Fund will be subject to the University of Warwick Financial Regulations and Procedures, which can be viewed at: www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/finance/finregproc/

All successful applicants will be required to provide a brief report within one month of the end of the funded project or visit (all two year award-holders will be requested to submit an interim report at the end of year one). This report should detail the use of the funds (interim reports to include a revised budget for year two); achievement of outputs and outcomes from the award; how the activities have contributed to the University strategy; future plans to build on the work done, and further funding applications made or planned. A report pro-forma will be sent to successful applicants.
