Adjunct Panel – Engineering and Exact Sciences
Prof. Fabio Kon has received the degrees of Bachelors in Computer Science (USP, 1990), Bachelors in Music (UNESP, 1992), PhD and post-doc in Computer Science (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2000).
He was a Visiting Professor at Technion, Israel (2013), and a Fulbright Visiting Professor at MIT (2018).
Currently, Dr. Kon is a Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of São Paulo and PI of the S&T National Institute of the Future Internet for Smart Cities.
He works in the field of Computer Science, has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers on various themes around Software Development. His main research areas are Software Engineering, Distributed Systems and Middleware, a field in which he received the "10-Year Best Paper Award" in the ACM/IFIP/USENIX International Middleware Conference in 2010. In 2016, he received the title of Distinguished Scientist from the Association for Computer Machinery.
Prof. Kon is a former international director of the Open Source Initiative (OSI), and he is currently Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the SpringerNature Journal of Internet Services and Applications.
