We announce the opening of a post-doctoral position with the GHEMAT-SP - Mathematics Education History Research Group linked to the Federal University of São Paulo in Guarulhos, Brazil. The position is connected to the Thematic Project entitled “Mathematics in teacher training and teaching: processes and dynamics of production of professional knowledge, 1890-1990” which is funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and coordinated by Professor Wagner Rodrigues Valente.

Within the scope of the Thematic Project, researchers are encouraged to apply for the development of the sub-project “Mathematics for teaching and PCNs (1st to 4th grades)”. This sub-project aims to answer the following question: what processes and dynamics related to teacher training are connected to the edition of the National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs) – Mathematics, Elementary School? Which mathematics for teaching was consolidated as a result of such processes and dynamics?

It is expected that, based on an inventory of actions taken in terms of redirecting teacher training, so as to meet the needs of the PCNs, the research will explain what changes have occurred in the education of those dedicated to teaching the first years of school, focused on mathematics teaching.

Post-doctoral fellowship candidates should demonstrate in their academic curriculum productions within the history of mathematics education or history of education. The post-doctoral research will last 12 months.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
