• Resumo Summary

  O propósito deste projeto específico é traçar as estratégias de reprodução de famílias da elite campineira no período. Desde o Império, Campinas já contava com uma elite oligárquica consolidada, mas que teve que enfrentar vários desafios para ao mesmo tempo se reproduzir e se transformar. Entre eles, podem-se mencionar os processos de transição: política (entre os regimes monarquista e republicano), da base produtiva (da economia açucareira à cafeeira e, em seguida, a afirmação como importante núcleo comercial e industrial), do regime de trabalho rural (do escravismo ao colonato), do sistema de transporte (a constituição de um entroncamento ferroviário importante) e da saúde pública (pontuada por uma sucessão de crises sanitárias ao final do século 19). Tais transformações certamente repercutiram em todos os segmentos sociais, mas nosso foco aqui será caracterizar e analisar as transformações das elites econômicas e políticas locais.

  Pretendemos investigar, sob uma perspectiva intergeracional, em que medida tais famílias: a) se utilizaram de estratégias endogâmicas, b) revelaram-se permeáveis a ponto de absorver em seus quadros indivíduos de outros estratos sociais, e c) expandiram sua presença investindo em outras regiões a oeste do estado, acompanhando a marcha do café, o que nos interessa sobejamente para o Projeto Temático.

  A vaga está aberta a brasileiros e estrangeiros. O selecionado receberá Bolsa de Pós-Doutorado da FAPESP no valor de R$ 12.000,00 mensais e Reserva Técnica equivalente a 10% do valor anual da bolsa para atender a despesas imprevistas e diretamente relacionadas à atividade de pesquisa.

  This specific project seeks to investigate the reproduction strategies of families from the elite of Campinas (state of São Paulo, Brazil) in the period. Since the age of Imperial Brazil, Campinas already had a consolidated oligarchic elite that, nevertheless, had to face several challenges in order to reproduce and transform itself. Among them, we can mention transition processes in: politics (between the monarchist and republican regimes), the productive base (from the sugar economy to the coffee economy and, subsequently, the affirmation as an important commercial and industrial pole), the rural labor regime (from slavery to “colonato”), the transportation system (the creation of an important railway node) and public health (sanitary crises at the 1890s). Such transformations certainly had repercussions on all social segments, but our focus here will be to characterize and analyze the transformations of local economic and political elites.

  We intend to investigate, from an intergenerational perspective, to what extent such families: a) used endogamous strategies, b) proved to be permeable to the point of absorbing individuals from other social strata into their ranks, and c) expanded their presence by investing in other regions, following the coffee march, which is of great interest to the Thematic Project in question.

  This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
