Resumo
Summary
Candidatos à vaga devem enviar à pesquisadora responsável do projeto, Beatriz Barbuy, no e-mail: b.barbuy@iag.usp.br: 1) Plano de Trabalho; 2) Curriculum Vitae.
The spectroscopic study of faint globular clusters can be carried out in two ways: for the relatively faint clusters, it is possible to carry out low to medium-resolution spectroscopy of individual stars, and for more distant ones, for which there is no possibility of distinguishing individual stars, it is possible to study their integrated spectra, as carried out in our group (e.g. Martins et al. 2019; Moura et al. 2019; Goncalves et al. 2020). The main lines of our research are described below.
Objectives:
Globular clusters have typical integrated magnitudes in the range -6 < MV < -8, that is about 5 magnitudes brighter than an individual red giant branch (RGB) star. For a given apparent magnitude, such globular clusters are thus observable at a 10 times greater distance compared to the brightest RGB stars, which corresponds to a factor of 1000 in the accessible volume of space.
The aims are twofold: the study of extragalactic globular clusters, and the combination of single stellar populations so-computed for the study of the integrated spectra of galaxies.
Applicants must send to Beatriz Barbuy (b.barbuy@iag.usp.br), Professor at the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and principal investigator of the project, the following documents: 1) Plan of work; 2) Curriculum Vitae.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly, valid for one year. The fellowship includes a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of its annual value which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
