Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Forest Restoration – Permanent Preservation Area

• Resumo Summary

  Procuramos candidatos com histórico de publicações consistente na área desta chamada, com conhecimento teórico e prático avançado em modelagem espaço-temporal, para criar e analisar cenários estratégicos de restauração florestal da Mata Atlântica. A pessoa selecionada trabalhará no âmbito do Estratégia Mata Atlântica (CCD-EMA), um dos Centros de Ciência para o Desenvolvimento apoiados pela FAPESP, composto por grandes equipes interdisciplinares de pesquisadores da UFSCar, ESALQ-USP, INPE, EACH-USP e UFABC, além da SOS Mata Atlântica, WWF, IPE, TNC e Secretaria Estadual de Meio Ambiente, Infraestrutura e Logística de São Paulo. O candidato selecionado receberá Bolsa de Pós-Doutorado da FAPESP de 48 meses e Reserva Técnica equivalente a 10% do valor anual da bolsa para atender a despesas imprevistas e diretamente relacionadas à atividade de pesquisa.

  O projeto visa gerar cenários espacial e temporalmente explícitos, sinérgicos e estratégicos de implementação de restauração de vegetação nativa, divididos em três desafios que se intersectam (I – restauração via mecanismos de comando e controle, II – compromissos voluntários incentivados, e III – em benefício de Unidades de Conservação e remanescentes de vegetação nativa), contidos dentro de um desafio maior (estabelecimento de custos de implementação e possíveis linhas de financiamento).

  A vaga presencial se refere ao desafio I, e está aberta a pesquisadores brasileiros e estrangeiros com título de doutor. A fluência em português é desejada para facilitar a discussão e ambiente de coprodução com os diferentes atores envolvidos no projeto.

  We seek candidates with a consistent publication record in the field of this call, with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in spatiotemporal modeling, to create and analyze strategic scenarios for Atlantic Forest restoration. The selected person will work within the scope of the Atlantic Forest Strategy (CCD-EMA), one of the Science for Development Centers supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in São Paulo state, Brazil. CCD-EMA comprises interdisciplinary teams of researchers from several research institutions – Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), University of São Paulo's Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture in Piracicaba (ESALQ-USP), National Space Research Institute (INPE), School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities in São Paulo city (EACH-USP), and the Federal University of the ABC (UFABC) – in addition to NGOs such as SOS Mata Atlântica, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Institute for Ecological Research (IPE) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), as well as the São Paulo State Department for the Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics.

  The selected candidate will receive a 48-month FAPESP Post-Doctoral Fellowship and a research contingency fund equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity. 

  The project aims to generate spatially and temporally explicit, synergistic, and strategic scenarios for the implementation of native vegetation restoration, divided into three intersecting challenges (I – restoration through command and control mechanisms, II – incentivized voluntary commitments, and III – for the benefit of Conservation Units and remnants of native vegetation), contained within a larger challenge (establishment of implementation costs and possible financing lines).

  This vacancy is linked to challenge #1. This on-site position is open to Brazilian and foreign researchers with a doctoral degree. Proficiency in Portuguese is desired to facilitate discussion and a co-production environment with the different stakeholders involved in the project.
