FAPESP and Equinor (Statoil's new name since May), a Norwegian multinational energy company, announce the result of a call for proposals launched with the aim of establishing an Engineering Research Center in Reservoir and Production Management, in Brazil.
The focus of the Center at a strategic level will be to undertake R&D into production optimization, enhanced/increased oil recovery, and water handling.
The selected proposal will receive up to R$ 5 million, considering both parties contribution, to perform research on the cutting edge of either fundamental or applied knowledge, seeking economic, environmental and social impact through innovation.
FAPESP’s support will be provided under the aegis of its Engineering Research Center Program (ERC).
Funding from FAPESP and Equinor is not expected to be the sole and exclusive support of the Center. Partnerships with governmental or non-governmental agencies that are responsible for public policies are foreseen, as well as the creation of startups to be supported by FAPESP’s Innovative Research in Small Business Program (PIPE).
