The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) announces a new call for research proposals with the Belmont Forum, group of member organizations with the mission to encourage research on global changes.

The “Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative” call for proposals aims to bring together integrated teams of natural scientists, engineers, social scientists, business, and urban stakeholders to develop projects requiring collaborative, international, inter- and transdisciplinary research and innovation.

The call is supported by Belmont Forum selected funding agencies from different countries and also by agencies related to the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe.

Projects must address all three sectors of food, water and energy by an integrative approach within the themes: “Robust Knowledge, Indicators and Assessments”; “Multi-level Governance and Management of the Food-Water-Energy Nexus”; “Managing Potential Strategies and Solutions to address emerging Risk and Tradeoffs at the intersection of Sustainable Urbanisation and the FWE Nexus”.

Proposals should follow the overall conditions of Regular Research Awards.

Proponents from the State of São Paulo must be established researchers with Social Sciences or Humanities background and have a proven track record of working in interdisciplinary projects such as the Thematic Projects grants at FAPESP in the topic areas of the proposal.

The call will support collaborative research projects of multinational research teams for 36 months, beginning in mid-2018, to be selected with a two-stage procedure (outline proposal stage followed by a full proposal stage for the projects that successfully go through the previous stage).

Closing date for submission of outline proposals is March 15, 2017.
