Leonor Patrícia Cerdeira Morellato holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1982), a master's degree (1987) and a doctorate (1991) in Ecology from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp).

Lecturer in Plant Taxonomy at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Unesp), Rio Claro campus and currently full professor of Botany (2005) at this institution. She has experience in Ecology and Botany, working mainly with phenology of tropical vegetation and climate change, evolution of temporal, diversity and reproductive patterns in plants, pollination and seed dispersal, anthropic and fire effects, and biodiversity conservation.

She was visiting professor at the University of California, Davies, USA (1997), University of Alberta, Canada (2008), Technical University of Munich, Friesing, Germany (2011-2012), Cornell University, USA (2013), University of Avignon, France (2016). Member of the Capes Advisory Committee (2012), of the International Phenology Committee (2010-present), member of the Association of Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC) since 1996 and member of the Steering Committee (2001–2003), member of the Brazilian Society of Botany, Braziilan Society of Ecology (ABECO) and the Botanical Society of America (BSA) and Ecological Society of America (ESA).

She established the first tropical phenology network in Brazil using digital cameras (e-phenology network). She is currently associate editor of the journals Flora and Global Ecology and Biogeography. She received the Jabuti Literature Prize in 1993, in the area of Natural Sciences, for organizing the book: Natural History of Serra do Japi (Unicamp Publisher). She participated in the fourth IPCC 2007 (contributing author-Working Group II) Nobel Peace Prize winner.
