New FAPESP Publications Award Guidelines Versão em português

Reorganized and updated criteria for funding the publication of articles and books, in Brazil and abroad

FAPESP has comprehensively revised the guidelines for Publications Award, approved by the Foundation's Executive Board on November 10th, 2021. One of the main changes in policy is that full journal publications will no longer be funded.

The Publications Award continues to provide funding for the publication of journal articles and books, in Brazil or abroad, that present the results of research carried out by a researcher with a doctorate or equivalent qualification, and employment at a public or private research institution in the state of São Paulo.

For article publications, the new policy caps financial assistance to cover article processing charges at R$ 12,000. Exceptional situations which require higher values must be very well justified in terms of the quality and relevance of the article and the journal where it will be published, and will be analyzed on a case-by-case basis.

FAPESP will support the publication of books in Brazil that present original and unpublished research results. Requests for the publication of books that do not present results of research supported by FAPESP may be analyzed only when highly exceptional, with detailed justification. Funding for books published abroad may cover unpublished work or the translation of work already published in Brazil, provided it is considered of interest by FAPESP.

Two new documents are necessary to apply for Publications Award. The first includes information about the grant or scholarship related to the research results that generated the scientific article or book published. The second document is a list of authors and co-authors of the work or article intended to be covered by the grant.

A step-by-step description of the analysis and selection process for proposals in this support opportunity is provided on the website. Assessment involves five steps and the participation of ad hoc reviewers, members of the Area Coordination, and the Associate Coordination of FAPESP´s Scientific Board.
