Dr. Steiner completed his undergraduate and graduate training at the University of São Paulo (Brazil), having obtained his PharmD in 1999 and his PhD in Physiology in 2002. He did his postdoctoral training in Neuroimmunology at Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center (Phoenix, AZ, USA) from 2002 to 2007.

His first faculty appointment was as an Assistant Professor at the Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (Albany, NY, USA). He was the recipient of a Scientist Development Award from the American Heart Association and of a New Investigator Award of the American Physiological Society.

He is now an Associate Professor at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas, Universidade de São Paulo (ICB-USP).

The Steiner laboratory studies the multilateral interactions among immune system and physiological systems in life-threatening infections (sepsis) and systemic inflammation. The overall goal is to identify the mechanisms by which these systems cooperate or compete with each other under different contexts.

The results of his research have been published in prominent peer-reviewed journals. He is an editorial board member in the journal Shock, the Journal of Thermal Biology and the Journal Temperature.
