Alvaro Pacheco e Silva Filho

He has a degree in Medicine from Escola Paulista de Medicina da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (EPM-Unifesp) (1981), a master's degree (1989) and a doctorate (1989) also from EPM-Unifesp. He held a postdoctoral (Research Fellowship) at Harvard Medical School, USA from 1989 to 1992.

He is currently Full Professor of the Discipline of Nephrology. He has experience in the area of Medicine, with an emphasis on Nephrology, working mainly on the following topics: kidney transplantation, immunological monitoring, chronic graft nephropathy, ischemia and reperfusion injury, cardiovascular complications in renal Tx and Cytomegalovirus infection.

He is Coordinator of the Laboratory of Clinical and Experimental Immunology (LICE) of the Discipline of Nephrology at EPM-Unifesp where he develops research with experimental models of Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury and models of experimental renal fibrosis.

The laboratory has had financial support from CNPq, FAPESP, CAPES and some international research grants. From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the Basic Science Committee of the International Transplant Society, having collaborated in the basic science program of the International Transplant Congresses during this period and in the Basic Science Symposia of the International Transplant Society.

He was supervisor of the Residency Program in Clinical Medicine of the Department of Medicine at EPM-Unifesp from 2017 to 2023. He was head of the Department of Medicine at EPM-UNIFESP from June 2019 to March 2023. Vice-President of the Region Southeast of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology between 2021 and 2022.

As head of the Department of Medicine at EPM-UNIFESP, he coordinated and organized the care of patients with Covid-19 by the Respiratory Infection Unit, at Hospital São Paulo-EPM-UNIFESP.

Member of the evaluation committee for the quadrennial of Area of Medicine I, CAPES. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Transplantation (BJT).

Since January 2023, he has been Scientific Director of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology and Member of the Scientific Committee of the 32nd Brazilian Congress of Nephrology.

CNPq IA Productivity Scholarship since 2000. Member of the CNPq Medicine Board from 2018 to 2022. From April to September 2023 he carried out postdoctoral research at the Inflammation Research Center, Bichat Hospital, University of Paris.
