Chou Sin Chan

Senior Researcher at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). She served as Head of the Operations Division, Head of the Modeling and Development Division of the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies, and Head of the Numerical Modeling for the Earth System Division of the General Coordination of Earth Science. She also served as Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Meteorology at INPE.

She received a Bachelor's degree in meteorology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (1985), a Master's degree in meteorology from the INPE (1990), and a PhD degree in meteorology from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom (1993).

She has expertise in atmospheric numerical modeling and leads the development of the Eta Model for weather and climate forecasting and climate change projections.

She contributed as an author to Chapter 9 of Working Group 1 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). She contributed as co-coordinator of Chapter 8 of Working Group 1 of the First National Assessment Report (RAN1). She coordinated the generation of regionalized climate change scenarios in Brazil in support of the Third National Communication for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Brasil2040 project. She is a 1C researcher at CNPq.
