She has a Bachelor's degree in Medicine (1982), a Master's degree (1988), and a PhD (1992) in Clinical Medicine from the School of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP), with a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, USA (1994-1996).

She is a Full Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine and former director of FMRP-USP (2016-2020), during which time she served as President of the Deliberative Council of the Clinical Hospital of FMRP-USP.

She was a member of the Medicine Assessment Committee (CA-MD) of CNPq (2010-2013) and is a member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (Aciesp). She is a CNPq Researcher Level 1B, with scientific experience in the areas of Physiology, Clinical Endocrinology, and Molecular Biology, focusing on the regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, glucocorticoid resistance, and molecular pathogenesis of endocrine tumors.

She has published 209 articles indexed in PubMed, with 5,579 citations and an H-index of 37 in the Web of Science database. She has supervised 27 undergraduate research students, 14 Master's students, 23 PhD students, and 9 postdoctoral researchers.

She has received numerous national and international awards and distinctions, including the USP Graduate Award for the best doctoral thesis in 1992, the NIH Fellow Award for Research Excellence from the Office of Science Education - NIH-USA (1995), and the SBEM-2015 Award from the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism for her contribution to research and human resources training in the field of Endocrinology in the country.
