Américo Martins Craveiro

Adjunct Panel - Research for Innovation

He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from Escola de Engenharia Mauá (IMT), em 1975, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of São Paulo (USP), em 1994. He has a specialization in the fermentative process for utilizing organic waste from the Illinois Institute of Technology (1977 to 1978).

He worked from 1975 to 2004 at the Institute for Technological Research of the State of São Paulo (IPT) as a researcher in the field of biochemical engineering, head of the Biotechnology Group, and coordinator of the Biotechnology Program at IPT. He worked from 1994 to 2010 at Vallée S.A., a veterinary company, as manager of the biochemical engineering and vaccines area, R&D director, and innovation director.

He coordinated the preparation and presented the winning bid of Vallée S.A. to the judging committee for the 4th edition of the Finep Award for Technological Innovation in the Large Company category (2001). He collaborated with the University of São Paulo (USP-MBA) "Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation" from 1999 to 2003.

He was vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Biotechnology Companies (Abrabi) (1989-1993); director, vice-president, and president of the National Association for Research, Development, and Engineering of Innovative Companies (Anpei) from 1998 to 2004 and again vice-president in 2006. He was a member of the State Council of Science and Technology of the State of São Paulo (Concite) (2004-2006) and the Superior Council of Technology of Federação das Indústrias do Estado de São Paulo (Contec-Fiesp) (2003-2004), among others.

He was a member of the Installation Committee of the Master's Program in Biotechnology at USP–Butantan Institute–IPT (1988-1989), a founding member of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE) (2001), and the Center for Technology of the Northeast (Cetene) (2006). He received the Order of Scientific Merit Commendation on August 15, 2002.
