Nurse and Researcher at the Institute of Advanced Studies at University of São Paulo (USP). Graduated from the School of Nursing at the USP (1984), with a Master's in Health Sciences (1992) and a Ph.D. (1999) from the School of Nursing at USP. Obtained the title of Associate Professor at the School of Nursing at USP (2006) and became a Full Professor in 2018. Received the title of Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in 2021.

Participated in the postdoctoral program at the Yale University School of Nursing (New Haven, USA), conducting research in the area of palliative care. She was the Dean of the School of Nursing at USP during the 2019-2023 term.

Since 2008, she has led the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Loss and Grief (Nippel). She is the founder of the Red Internacional de Enfermería en Cuidados Paliativos/Enf Americas OPS. She conducted research abroad at Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC. Currently, she is a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow - Level 1B.

Her areas of knowledge and research include death and grief, palliative care, and family nursing.
