Thiago Alegre is an Associate Professor at the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics (IFGW) at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), where he earned his bachelor's degree (2003), Ph.D. (2008), and habilitation (2019) in physics. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) between 2008 and 2011.

His research focuses on classical and quantum interactions between light and acoustic waves in micro- and nanostructured devices, with an emphasis on optomechanical phenomena and their applications in photonic devices and quantum systems.

He was elected as an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences for the 2019-2024 term. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of APL Photonics and has served as an Associate Editor of Optica Quantum since 2024. He is also a member of the Brazilian Physical Society, the Brazilian Photonics Society, and the Optical Society of America.
