Carlos Afonso Nobre

National Institute of Space Research (INPE)

Carlos Nobre is a Senior Scientist at the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) and is currently the Director of the newly created Earth System Science Center at INPE. He is also the Chair of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme Scientific Committee. He was the director of the Brazilian Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC-INPE) from 1991-2003 and participated as a Program Scientist for the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA) from 1996- 200. Dr Nobre is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and of the Academy of Sciences of the Developing Countries (TWAS), professor of Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions at INPE’s doctoral program in Meteorology.

Dr. Nobre graduated in Electrical Engineering from Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronáutica (ITA) in 1974 and did his PhD in Meteorology at the Institute of Technology (MIT), US.
