Prof. Carlos A. Joly did his BSc Biology – USP 1976; his MSc Plant Biology – UNICAMP/1979; his PhD Botany – Univ. St. Andrews-Scotland/1982, and became Full Professor Plant Ecology – UNICAMP/1997. During his career he has published more than 60 papers and/or book chapters, 10 books, supervised 23 MSc and 12 PhD, in the areas of plant ecophysiology and biodiversity conservation. As main mentor of the BIOTA/FAPESP Programme (http://www.biota.org.br) he was in charge of planning, setting and implementing it from 1996 to 2004, being recently reappointed as Chairman of the Programme. Within the BIOTA/FAPESP he is also the Editor in Chief of the electronic peer reviewed scientific journal BIOTA NEOTROPICA (http:// www.biotaneotropica.org.br). At Unicamp, he is currently Professor in Plant Ecology, Head of the Department of Plant Biology IB/UNICAMP and member of the Program Coordination PhD in Environment and Society (NEPAM/UNICAMP).
