FAPESP and JSPS announce call for proposals The purpose is to carry out joint workshops to foster collaboration between young researchers in Japan and São Paulo (FAPESP)

FAPESP and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), based on the memorandum of understanding signed by the institutions, will carry out joint workshops to foster collaboration between young researchers in Japan and in São Paulo.

The purpose is to encourage young researchers to share knowledge, experience and ideas in the research areas stipulated in the call for proposals, to provide them with a career development opportunity, and to build networks for future collaborations among them that may lead to the development of new research areas.

Workshop coordinators should choose one of the following two topics: “Culture and Society” and “Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation”.

Each proposal must have one co-coordinator on the Japanese side and one co-coordinator on the Brazilian side.

A co-coordinator on the São Paulo side must hold a full-time or equivalent position as a researcher at a higher education and/or research institution in the State of São Paulo and must satisfy Thematic Grants eligibility criteria.

A co-coordinator on the Japan side must hold a full-time or equivalent position as a researcher at a university or research institution in Japan that is eligible to receive Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI).

Two workshops will be selected, with duration of three consecutive days, either in Japan or in the State of São Paulo.

Each party will equally contribute the equivalent to 80,000 US dollars per workshop.

Applicants must submit their proposals before 15 May 2014 to FAPESP and JSPS.

The call for proposals is available at: www.fapesp.br/en/8512.
