SPRINT - 1st Edition 2017: Guidelines University of Warwick

Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of the University of Warwick 

FAPESP and the University of Warwick signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on 19th June 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Warwick, UK, and from the State of São Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as an action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and University of Warwick make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2017 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12017) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from the WARWICK side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

a. The Call is open to all academic Departments, Research Institutes, Centres and Groups. Strong preference will be given to projects that will be likely to promote sustained collaborative activity beyond the end point of the award period.

b. The project lead must be a permanent or fixed-term member of academic staff (with at least 12 months left on employment contract as of 1st December 2016, ending no earlier than the end of the period for which funds are awarded).

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

a. The project lead may take part in exchange activities. Other participants may include post-doctoral Fellows and PhD students where appropriate. The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the activities.

b. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 7.1 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12017).

c. Considering the principle of reciprocity, FAPESP may exceptionally support PhD students from the State of São Paulo to take part in the activities. In this case, the PhD student(s) must have an ongoing FAPESP fellowship during the planned exchange mission to the partner institution.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields and disciplines.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 2 years (starting from 1 st August 2017).

5. Funding principles

The total funding available on the Warwick side is £40,000 per year for two years. FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £ 10,000.00 (ten thousand pounds Sterling) per proposal per year and the University of Warwick will provide funding of up to £ 10,000.00 (ten thousand pounds Sterling) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover mobility and research-related expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8748).

6. Proposal characteristics for WARWICK researchers:

The proposal shall be composed of:

6.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at the University of Warwick. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to the University of Warwick. The Research Project must include the items included in the item 6.1 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12017.

6.2.1 The following additional information required by the University of Warwick:

a. Cover Sheet (template available)

b. Budget Sheet (template available)

c. Letter of Support from Head of Department

6.2.2 Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12017. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature .

7. Submission of proposals to WARWICK

Submissions can only be accepted by email, by 24th April 2017, to the following email address: fapesp@warwick.ac.uk.

8. Evaluation results

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and University of Warwick (www.warwick.ac.uk) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs after 28th July 2017.

9. Contract for selected projects by WARWICK

Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award.

10. Grant cancellation

University of Warwick may cancel funding of a University of Warwick researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
