Denis Deratani Mauá

Advisor to the General Coordination – Computer Science


He is an Associate Professor of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP), and a CNPq productivity fellow. Graduated in Electrical Engineering with a Masters in Mechatronics from University of São Paulo. Obtained his PhD in Informatics from University of Lugano, Switzerland.

He was a research fellow at IDSIA (Switzerland) between 2009 and 2013. He is Area Editor of the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning (IJAR), Editorial Board member of the Artificial Intelligence Journal, Senior Associated Editor of the ACM Transactions on Probabilistic Machine Learning Journal, and serves regularly in the program committee of the main AI conferences (AAAI, IJCAI, UAI).

Researches the computational aspects of probabilistic graphical models, logical models and languages that combine probability and logic, as well as applications in natural language processing, robust inference and planning. More recently, his research focused on neuro-symbolic reasoning approaches based on probabilistic programming and logic.
