NOTE: Professor Alejandro Szanto de Toledo died on February 21, 2015. Professor José Goldemberg, from USP, will complete his mandate. 

He earned an undergraduate (1967), master’s (1970) and doctorate (1976) from the University of São Paulo and completed a post-doc at the Max Plank Institute in Heidelberg (Germany) (1977-1978). 

He is a full professor at the University of São Paulo (1989). He served as director of the USP Physics Institute from 2006 to 2010. He is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (1997) and the Paulista Academy of Sciences (1996). 

He served as member of the CNPq Advisory Council (1996-2001) and has been a member of the FAPESP Board of Trustees since 2013. He is a nuclear physicist and has been a visiting researcher at several laboratories in the United States, France, Japan, Russia and Germany. He coordinated the project to build the USP Physics Institute Linear Accelerator Superconductor as well as the PRONEX project. He has an H-index of 63.
