Luiz Vitor de Souza Filho

Area Panel - Astronomy

Bachelor in Physics (1997), Master (2000) and Doctor (2004) from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). He worked as a post-doc at the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences (IAG) of the University of São Paulo (USP) until 2007 and as a researcher at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, until 2008. Since August 2008 he has been a Professor at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos (IFSC) from USP where he did his habilitation (2015). In 2018, he was Visiting Researcher in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Division of Astronomy and Astrophysics, University of California at Los Angeles.

He was coordinator of the IFSC graduate program (2018-2022), president of the National Forum of Coordinators of Graduate Programs in Astronomy and Physics (2020-2022), chairman of the conference committee of the Pierre Auger Observatory (2017- 2019) and chairman of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) Observatory publications and conferences committee (2017-2019).

He is currently a member of the Technical and Scientific Council of the National High Energy Physics Network (Renafae), deputy head of the Department of Physics and Interdisciplinary Science at IFSC/USP and president of the Scientific Council of the CTA Observatory. He is a CNPq level 1C research productivity fellow.

He has experience in astronomy and astrophysics, with an emphasis on astroparticles, working mainly on the following subjects: cosmic rays, gamma rays, extragalactic sources, extragalactic medium, instrumentation for observatories, Lorentz invariance violation and dark matter.
