FAPESP and Belmont Forum launch new call for proposals Versão em português

Research will be supported to deepen understanding of the interactions between climate and environment to protect and promote ecological, planetary and human health.

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the Belmont Forum, an international group of organizations with the mission to encourage research on global change, announce a new call for proposals under the cooperation agreement signed by the member institutions.

This call, titled “Climate, Environment and Health 2 (CEH2)”, is supported by Belmont Forum’s 15 selected funding agencies representing nine countries. The call also features a number of organizations that help it achieve global reach: Future Earth, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The complete list of participants can be found at https://belmontforum.org/cras#ceh22023.

Through the call, FAPESP and the Belmont Forum participating members will fund collaborative research projects aiming to improve our understanding of the interactions between climate and environment with the goal of protecting and promoting ecological, planetary and human health in the face of climate challenges.

The funders will support collaborative research that follows at least two of the three lines of investigation proposed in the call:

1) Decision-science of environmental behavior and implementation;
2) Food, Environment, and Biological Security; and
3) Climate Risks to Ecosystems & Populations.

Proposals should include perspectives from the social sciences and humanities, as well as from the natural and physical sciences. They should also effectively involve social actors, using participatory approaches, co-creation, co-development and co-implementation.

Submission

Proposals must combine significant contributions by national research teams from at least three of the countries participating in the international call. Selected projects will have a three-year maximum duration.

Proponents from the state of São Paulo must follow the specific guidelines, based on the rules of FAPESP’s Regular Research Grant Support Opportunity. Exceptions are described in the call for proposals. A preliminary eligibility consultation must be sent to FAPESP via the email address created for this call (due date is 31 July, 2023), demonstrating, among other requirements, experience in international interdisciplinary projects.

The budget earmarked by FAPESP for this call will be equivalent to R$ 2.6 million, and the maximum allowable budget is R$ 100.000 per year, plus a Post-Doctoral or Level 5-Technical Training fellowship.

Leading principal investigators of each consortium must submit a preproposal directly to the Belmont Forum by July 17.

If your consortium is enabled by the Call Secretariat in the Pre-Proposals stage, the São Paulo researcher will receive by email instructions on how to submit the complete and necessary documentation through the SAGe system by January 2024 (date to be confirmed by the Belmont Forum).

Guidelines for researchers from the state of São Paulo are available at https://fapesp.br/16183.
