Carmino Antonio De Souza

Graduated in Medicine in 1975, Medical Residency in Internal Medicine and Hematology and Hemotherapy 1976-1979, Doctor in 1987, Free Professor in 1996 and Full Professor in 2001 of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Faculty of Medical Sciences - University of Campinas - State of São Paulo – Brazil. He completed postdoctoral studies at the Department of Hematology, Hospital San Martino, University of Genoa, Italy, between 1997 and 1998.

He is an onco-hematologist, working on malignant lymphomas, chronic myeloid leukemia and bone marrow transplantation. He has published around 450 articles, mainly in English and Portuguese, more than 1200 abstracts in national and international conferences; 29 chapters of scientific books and 45 approved master's and doctoral theses. More than 12850 citations, H Index – index 52 and Hi10 – 171 (Google Scholar – 09‐08‐2024). Author of five non-technical books. Coordinator of CEPID CancerThera (FAPESP) from 2023-2028.

He is a member and current scientific director of the Brazilian Association of Hematology, Hemotherapy and Cellular Therapy (ABHH), member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), member of The European Hematology Association (EHA), founder and Member of the Italo Brazilian Hematology Association (AIBE).

He was Coordinator of the Blood Center of Campinas for 14 years (1988-1993 and 2006-2012), Secretary of Health of the State of São Paulo between 1993-1994, Secretary of Health of Campinas between 2013-2020, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Government of the State of São Paulo in 2022, member of the Superior Council of FAPESP between 2015-2021 and 2022-current; and is current President of the Board of Trustees of Fundação Butantan.
