Riccardo Sturani

He has a master's degree in Physics - University of Pisa (Italy, 1997), a PhD in Physics - Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (Italy, 2002). He is researcher IV at the Institute of Theoretical Physics (IFT) at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Unesp) and he has "livre docencia" from USP (2024).

He worked as a postdoc at the University of Helsinki (Finland), Geneva (Switzerland) and Urbino (Italy), as a young researcher at IFT-UNESP and as a senior researcher at the International Institute of Physics at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). He is a CNPq level 2 research productivity fellow.

He has experience in Physics and Cosmology, with an emphasis on Gravitational Wave Astronomy. He has been a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration since 2009, as a contributor to which won the 2016 Breakthrough prize in fundamental physics and the 2016 Gruber Cosmology prize as a member of the LIGO discovery team for the first detection of gravitational waves from coalescing binary objects.
