She concluded her bachelor's degree (1993) in Chemistry, a Education in Science degree (1994), and a master's degree (1996) in Inorganic Chemistry, at the Chemistry Institute of the São Paulo State University (UNESP) Araraquara. Her PhD was carried out in Inorganic Chemistry, at the Chemistry Institute of UNESP Araraquara (2001) with an internship abroad to develop the experimental part at the Institut für Neue Materialien, Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrückencken, Germany (1997-1999).

Her postdoctoral trainings were completed at the Università degli Studi di Trento (2001-2003) involving the Departments of Physics and Materials Engineering; and in the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the Chemistry Institute of the São Paulo State University (UNESP) Araraquara (2003).

She is currently a full professor in the Department of Chemistry, at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ribeirão Preto, at the University of São Paulo (USP), where she joined as a professor in 2004. From 2018 to 2022 she has acted as Coordinator of the Education and Bachelor’s Degree Course in Chemistry. Currently she is CNPq productivity researcher, level 1C.

She was a researcher and visiting professor at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris – PSL, Chimie ParisTech (2011-2012 and 2018).She is an associate editor of the journal Optical Materials and Optical Materials: X since 2023 and Eclética Química since 2022.

Her research interests involve rare earth spectroscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, luminescent materials doped with lanthanide and transition metals ions, including the development of new synthetic routes for the preparation of micro- or nanostructured materials in the form of particles or films for application in photonics (as planar waveguides, optical amplifiers, power converters, optical markers and sensors), biophotonics and as multifunctional platforms in Theranostics.
