Flávia Brito do Nascimento

Area Panel – Architecture and Urbanism

Historian from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF, 1995), Architect and Urban Planner from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, 2000), obtained a master's degree (2004) and a doctorate in Architecture and Urbanism from University of São Paulo (USP, 2011). Completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2019-2020).

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP), in the Department of History of Architecture and Aesthetics of Design. She focuses her research on urban history and cultural heritage. She is a CNPq Productivity Scholar.

She was an architect for the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage, Director of Research at the State Institute of Cultural Heritage of Rio de Janeiro, and a council member in the state and municipal preservation bodies in São Paulo. She was the President of the Undergraduate Commission of FAU-USP (2020-2022), is the Director of the Cultural Preservation Center of USP – Casa de Dona Yayá, and an alternate Councilor on the Advisory Council of Iphan.

She published the books "Between Aesthetics and Habit: The Department of Popular Housing, Rio de Janeiro 1946-1960" (Rio City Hall, 2007), "Blocks of Memories: Social Housing, Modern Architecture, and Cultural Heritage" (Edusp/Fapesp, 2016), and "Everyday Ensemble: Domesticity and Heritage of Modern Social Housing" (Edusp/Fapesp, 2024). She has received several awards for her research and publications, the most recent being the IAB-São Paulo Award 2023 in the Architectural Culture category.
