Helena Maria Sant'Ana Sampaio Andery

Advisor to the General Coordination - Social Sciences 3 (Education and Psychology)


She is a full professor at the Faculty of Education at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), where she works in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program in Education. She has been a CNPq productivity fellow since 2015.

Graduated in Social Sciences (1982), Master in Social Anthropology (1989) and PhD in Political Science (1998) from the University of São Paulo (USP), she completed a post-doctoral internship (2019/2020) at the Center de Recherches sur le Brésil Colonial et Contemporain of the École des Hautes Études en Science Sociales (EHESS), Paris. She defended her Professorship in the area of Culture and Education at the Faculty of Education of the State University of Campinas in 2022.

She served as national secretary of the Secretariat for Regulation and Supervision of Higher Education (SERES) of the Ministry of Education (MEC) from January 2023 to February 2024.

Helena is editor-in-chief of Revista Pro-Posições (Qualis 1A) and member of the editorial board of Editora da Faculdade de Educação/Unicamp. She is a founding member of the Higher Education Studies Laboratory (LEES) and the Center for Anthropology of Educational Processes (CeAPE), both at Unicamp. She is a member of the RUF (Folha University Ranking) board.

She develops studies in the area of education, with an emphasis on higher education, mainly with the following themes: comparative higher education systems, private sector, evaluation and regulation policies, access and retention. She has carried out the following international working visits: Center Population et Développement (Ceped) of the University of Paris-Cité, Paris (2021); École Centrale de Marseille (2021); University of Porto (2017); Institute for Latin American Studies at the Free University of Berlin (2012).
