FAPESP launches new calls with the Max Planck Society Versão em português
In the Regular Research Grant and Young Investigator modalities, opportunities aim to expand cooperation between research groups in the state of São Paulo and Germany.
FAPESP announces the launch of two new calls for proposals with the Max Planck Society (MPG) from Germany, represented by its 84 institutes. These calls are part of the cooperation agreement between the institutions, initiated in 2015.
The calls, in the Regular Research Grant and Young Investigator Grant modalities, are open to researchers affiliated with higher education and research institutions in the state of São Paulo.
In the Regular Research Grant modality, the duration of selected projects must be up to 36 months. Proposals in any field of knowledge may be submitted.
Interested researchers must consult FAPESP regarding their eligibility for this call before starting the joint proposal preparation. The deadline for pre-consultation eligibility is May 15th, 2025. For applicants considered eligible, FAPESP will issue an eligibility letter, which must be attached as a PDF file at the time of submission.
Researchers eligible for funding from Max Planck Institutes under the Regular Research Grant call must be qualified researchers in any field, hold a PhD, and work at Max Planck Institutes as principal investigators, group leaders, or directors.
Proposals must have a principal investigator in São Paulo and another at a Max Planck Institute. The research project must be conceived and written jointly by applicants from São Paulo and the Max Planck Institute.
The submission deadline for proposals is May 30, 2025. The call for Regular Research Grants is published at: fapesp.br/17459.
Young Investigator
Young highly qualified investigators, with at least two years of highly successful postdoctoral experience, are invited to submit research proposals to establish independent Tandem Research Groups at universities or research institutes in the state of São Paulo, in strong collaboration with researchers in one of the 84 Max Planck Institutes.
The TRG are modelled on the worldwide Max Planck Partner Groups that support early career scientists who are dedicated to independent, interdisciplinary, edge-cutting research. Each TRG will be established in close scientific collaboration with a corresponding Max Planck Institute that provides scientific advice, support, training, and access to know-how, facilities, and infrastructure.
Selected candidates will be funded through the FAPESP Young Investigator Grant program for 60 months (extension to 72 months is possible based on performance review).
The call will accept research proposals in the following themes:
1) Astronomy, chemistry, physics, geosciences, mathematics, computer sciences and engineering;
2) Life sciences and medicine;
3) Arts and humanities, social and cognitive sciences.
The research project must be written in English and submitted via SAGe by May 30, 2025.
The call for Young Investigator Grant is published at: fapesp.br/17461.
