This opportunity will fund research on the South Atlantic and Antarctica developed through collaborations between researchers from São Paulo and Chile.

The FAPESP Program for the South Atlantic and Antarctica (PROASA) announces a joint call with Chile’s National Agency for Research and Development (ANID).

Collaborations between researchers affiliated with educational and research institutions in the state of São Paulo and Chile will be supported on topics addressed within the scope of PROASA. The proposals must cover coastal areas and marine environments of the South Atlantic and Antarctica, involving research on biodiversity, ocean processes, latitudinal studies, governance, and other human dimensions.

The proposals must be jointly prepared by a São Paulo principal investigator (PI) and another Chilean researcher, in a single version in English, and submitted only to FAPESP via the SAGe System. Each agency will fund half of the research located in its territory, with FAPESP providing a maximum of BRL 600,000 per proposal.

FAPESP will apply the Regular Research Grant support modality for this call, with projects funded for up to 36 months. Exceptionally on this occasion, in addition to the scholarships allowed by the modality, the PI may request an additional Post-Doctoral Scholarship that will not be counted towards the total amount.

At the time of submission, the PI linked to the institution in Chile must be registered in SAGe. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 1, 2025.
