The objective is to encourage collaboration between researchers from the state of São Paulo and French Guiana to conduct research in favor of sustainable futures in the Amazon.*

FAPESP announces a call for collaborative research projects with the Université de Guyane (UG), in French Guiana, around the theme “Sustainable Futures of the Amazon.”

Projects must be jointly developed between, on one side, a principal investigator (PI) affiliated with a public or private research and higher education institution located in the state of São Paulo; and on the other, researchers employed by the Université de Guyane or a unit under the aegis of UG.

This is the first call in the partnership between the institutions. The Université de Guyane is an Amazonian university that places this region at the center of its strategy for development, research, and training. FAPESP, in turn, has been funding research in the Amazon for decades, and universities in the state of São Paulo are major producers of scientific knowledge about the Amazon.

This Call revolves around three major themes: 1) Global health and healthy and sustainable food; 2) Biodiversity and climate change; 3) Sustainable construction (and Amazonian urbanism) and green transition. The integration of one or more human and social sciences in the research project, according to a cross-cutting approach, is desirable and will be taken into account in the evaluation.

The projects will have a maximum duration of three years. FAPESP has made available R$ 4.9 million for funding research under this Call.

The PRs for the proposal must submit it to the funding agency in their respective region by January 12nd, 2026; at FAPESP, submissions will be made exclusively through SAGe and require that the French Guianese PR is registered in the system. To be eligible for this Call, the São Paulo researcher must meet the criteria required for submitting a project in the Regular Research Grant modality.

The Call is available at https://fapesp.br/17727.
