Collaborative research in eleven areas that cover the strategic research axes structuring FAPESP's activities in the 2026-28 triennium will be supported.
FAPESP and the Fund for the Development of Science and Technology (FDCT), of Macau, China, announce the launch of a new call for joint research projects, the second under the cooperation agreement between the institutions.
The aim is to promote and strengthen collaboration between researchers affiliated with Higher Education and Research Institutions in State of São Paulo, Brazil, and researchers affiliated with entities established in accordance with the law in Macao, China. As part of the “Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao” Science and Technology Innovation Corridor within the Greater Bay Area, Macau plays a crucial role as an environment for research and development at the frontier of science and technology.
Collaborations should leverage the strengths of researchers in both regions to address key areas of science and technology, including one or more of the eleven areas covered by the call: Biotechnology; Biodiversity; Sustainable Food Production and Food Security; Energy Transition; Digital Transition; Artificial Intelligence; Quantum Technology; Ocean Technology; Space Technology; Human and Animal Health; and Public Safety.
The themes negotiated between FAPESP and FDCT directly encompass the seven strategic research axes defined by FAPESP for the 2026-2028 period.

FDCT will fund up to MOP$1,500,000. Based on a symmetry agreement, each party will fund approximately up to USD 190,000 per project.
Each proposal must include one Principal Investigator (PI) from the State of São Paulo and one Principal Investigator (PI) affiliated with an entity established in accordance with the law in Macao, China, who unite strengths to execute a joint research project.
Funding requirements for FAPESP’s funding under the scope of this Call must follow the rules of Regular Grant with the exception of a postdoctoral scholar grant for up to 36 months, will not be computed in the maximum total amount allowed for the proposal.
The closing date for submission of proposals is July 21, 2026. Each PI must submit the collaboration proposal to the agency based in their territory of origin. FAPESP will receive submissions exclusively through the SAGe System, which will make the call available starting on May 15.
